Een tsunami van beelden kwam op ons af sinds de opkomst van mobieltjes waarmee men ook kiekjes kon maken. Het gemak om deze beelden te verspreiden, samen met een groeiend verlangen om jezelf te delen en te construeren via sociale media zorgde voor nog meer beeldenexplosie. Dagelijks worden miljoenen kiekjes gemaakt, en misschien wel evenveel gewist.

De tentoonstelling ‘Slow Photography’ toont een beweging die zich verzet tegen deze oppervlakkige vluchtigheid.

De kunstenaars beleven het medium fotografie vanuit de innerlijke stilte  ontstaan uit de stilstand van de tijd.  Fotografie wordt terug een relationeel proces, een mentaal proces dat het kunstwerk voorafgaat.

Iedere auteur doet dit op zijn persoonlijke manier.

Maurice Brandts maakt met zijn grootformaat platencamera één opname nadat hij lange tijd samen met zijn model de camera ingesteld heeft. Deze unieke opname verwerkt hij verder in het sublieme maar tijdrovend proces van de Platina-afdruk.

Vooraleer Hilde Braet haar portretten maakt geeft ze eerst workshops over thema’s als identiteit en portret versus zelfportret. Ze heeft uitgebreide gesprekken met haar modellen zodat een intieme band tussen fotograaf en model wordt gecreëerd. Dit vertaalt zich duidelijk in het portret.

De andere deelnemers van de tentoonstelling ‘Slow Photography’ hebben hun eigen methode om de tijd stil te zetten en zo weerwerk te bieden aan de opgedrongen vluchtigheid van het bestaan en dito fotografie.

A tsunami of images came at us since the rise of cell phones with which one could make also snapshots. The convenience to distribute these images, along with a growing desire to share and to construct once identity via social media created an explosion of images. Every day millions of snapshots are created,  and perhaps an equal number erased.

The exhibition ' Slow Photography ' shows a movement that resists this superficial volatility.

The artists experience the medium of photography from the inner silence created by the standstill of time. Photography becomes again a relational process, a mental process preceding the work of art.
Each author does this on his personal way.

Maurice Brandts makes only one recording with his large format plates camera after he has set, together with his model, the camera for a long time.

He processes this unique recording further in the sublime but time consuming process of the Platinum-print.

Before Hilde Braet makes her portraits she first gives workshops on themes such as identity and portrait versus self portrait. She has extensive talks with her models in order to create  an intimate bond between photographer and model. This appears clearly from the portrait.

The other participants of the exhibition ' Slow Photography ' have their own method to freeze the time and so forth work to accommodate the imposed volatility of the existence and photography.
