Wie ben ik?

Fotografie  is de rode draad doorheen mijn leven. Na het behalen van het diploma van landbouwingenieur assisteerde ik jarenlang de portretfotograaf Rony Heirman. Ondertussen studeerde ik fotografie aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten. Daarna specialiseerde ik me verder in techniek en inhoud oa in Tsjechië (Praag), Zwitserland (Basel), Nederland (Apeldoorn) en Frankrijk (Arles).

Ik beoefen, zoals u kunt zien op deze website, alle soorten van fotografie inclusief historische fotografische procedés. Ik ben een geëngageerd fotograaf en werk graag in de sociale sector.
Mijn uitdagingen zijn:

- De integratie van kunstfotografie en fotografie in opdracht;

- Zichtbaar maken van datgene wat je op het eerste zicht niet ziet (emoties, die nooit scherp zijn, nooit helder, altijd dubbel), en het vastleggen ervan in beelden;

- Mensen weerbaarder maken via Instrumentele Fotografie.

Mijn passie gaat naar mensen, sensuele portretten, portretten van mensen die een tipje van hun sluier willen oplichten. De knusse sfeer in mijn studio en de manier waarop ik omga met mijn modellen zijn uiterst belangrijk om dit mogelijk te maken.

Om het medium fotografie nog verder uit te diepen studeerde ik Cultuurwetenschappen (Beeldcultuur) aan de VUB. Ik rondde deze opleiding af met de thesis: “Aspecten van ethische fotografie. Onderzoek naar de mogelijkheden van het medium fotografie om een bijdrage te leveren aan emancipatorische processen, weerbaarheid en welbevinden”. Met mijn onderzoek won ik de Max van der Kamp scriptieprijs.

Who am I?

Photography is the recurring thread throughout my life. After graduating as an agricultural engineer I assisted for years the portrait photographer Rony Heirman. Meanwhile, I studied photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Afterwards I further specialized in technology and content in the Czech Republic (Prague), Switzerland (Basel), Netherlands (Apeldoorn) and France (Arles).

I practice, as you can see on this website, all types of photography including historical photographical processes. I am a committed photographer and like working in the social sector.

My challenges are:

- The integration of art photography and commissioned photography;

- Revealing what you do not see at first sight (emotions, never sharp, never clear, always double), and capture them in pictures;

- Empower people through Instrumental Photography.

My passion goes to people, sensual portraits, portraits of people that are willing to lift a corner of their veil. The cosy atmosphere in my studio and the way I deal with my models are extremely important to make this possible.

To further explore the medium of photography, I studied Cultural Sciences (Visual Culture) at the VUB. Icompleted this training with the thesis: "Aspects of ethical photography. Research into the possibilities of the medium photography to contribute to emancipatory processes, resilience and well-being". With my research I won the Max van der Kamp thesis prize.
